A few specific fixes for fulgoni.co.uk

I rebuild small-business sites in my spare time when I can see they are leaving credibility on the table. I spent ten minutes on the live fulgoni.co.uk on a phone and three things stood out, all on the first scroll. Three findings below, then a working rebuild you can click through at /preview/.

Three findings

What ten minutes on the live site, on a phone, surfaced.

A walk-through of fulgoni.co.uk as it stands on 18 May 2026.

01

The footer copyright is frozen on 2018, and nothing has moved on the homepage since 2023.

What I saw
The bottom of every page on fulgoni.co.uk reads "Copyright © 2018 FULGONI OPTICIANS". The most recent dated content on the homepage is the Wye Clinic Hereford visit from 2023, followed by the 50th anniversary milestone (March 2023). For a patient arriving cold from a Google search in 2026, the cue that the site is alive is missing, eight years missing in the case of the footer year. The GoDaddy template (DPS server, img1.wsimg.com isteam CDN) does not auto-update the year from the build date the way most modern stacks do.
After rebuild
After rebuild the year is computed from the build date and ships as 1973 to 2026 in the footer, refreshed every January without anyone touching the site. The "since 1973" footing also appears in the header, the hero strap and the schema markup, so any patient or search engine reading the page can place the practice on a 53-year timeline within five seconds.

02

The 50-year story is the strongest line Fulgoni has and the homepage does not tell it.

What I saw
On 1 March 2023 the practice turned 50, the Abergavenny Chronicle ran a feature, and Optician Online covered it. The current homepage carries a gold-foil "Congratulations John Fulgoni 50 Years In The Business" banner and a single thank-you paragraph. Nowhere above the fold does the page name John Fulgoni (founder, BSc FBCO), Wendy (front desk for 30 years until 1999), or Francesca (daughter, current partner, FBDO Prof Cert LV). The Italian-Welsh family thread, the Pontypool café origin, the year the family lived above the shop, the recent handover to a new G & F Fulgoni Limited entity in August 2025: none of it lands on a first scroll.
After rebuild
After rebuild the hero leads with the founder and the successor by name, the 53 years on Cross Street are computed live from foundingDate, and a dedicated father-to-daughter heritage band on slate carries the timeline, the Italian coffee detail, and the Optician Online press quote. Every patient who lands sees who they are dealing with inside ten seconds.

03

The phone, the email and the address are all hidden below body copy on the contact page.

What I saw
The current /contact-us page opens with a paragraph of welcoming copy, then lists 17 Cross Street, then 01873 853657 / 852307, then reception@fulgoni.co.uk. There is no click-to-call, no click-to-email and no map embed. The homepage itself never displays the phone or email at all, even though the practice handles urgent eye problems (EHEW, same-day red eye, sudden vision loss) where the patient needs the number now, not after two scrolls on a mobile. The full address NP7 5EW does not appear on the homepage either.
After rebuild
After rebuild a sticky two-tier header carries the tagline, the click-to-call 01873 853657 and the Cross Street address on every screen, every page, from the first pixel. The Visit section pins the address, the lunch-hour quirk and the Thursday-half-day on a card, and the urgent-eye-problem CTA links straight to the dialler. A patient looking for the number on a phone never scrolls.

Next step

If the proposal lands, two or three twenty-minute slots in the next ten days.

Reply to the proposal email with two or three slots in the next ten days for a video call. I take on three Wales builds this quarter and first confirmed wins the slot. If I do not hear back by 28 May 2026, the proposal site comes down.
